Turing app for iPhone and iPad

Turing explores advanced ideas in computer science by letting you operate a fully working CPU and its memory and input/output devices.

With Turing you can write programs in machine code then fetch and execute the instructions one at a time or run the program as a whole. In either mode you will see the various parts of the computer animate as they fetch then carry out your program.

Turing comes with example programs and a free tutorial and help guide can be downloaded from our support site.

Turing works in binary and hexadecimal and includes more than 60 instructions that can be used to write and carry out programs in Turings machine language.

You do not need to understand binary or hexadecimal to use Turing.

Turing also contains a challenge mode called Turing Quest which sets problems to be solved by writing code. Turing tests and grades your solutions and awards badges and levels.

The Babbage app (also available in the app store) is a simpler model than Turing and operates in decimal rather than binary/hexadecimal.
